Reveal Records
Starting out in 1999 as an independent record store, then winning Best UK Music Retailer at the 2005 Music Week Awards, Tom added the label strand to the business the same year after being captivated by live performances by
New York’s Joan Wasser (Joan As Police Woman) and Scottish folk singer/guitarist Kris Drever.
Both artists signed up to the new label and produced seminal debut albums in 2006 for Reveal. Real Life (featuring Antony) by Joan As Police Woman was certified silver in Europe, and three years later, was chosen as one of The Word Magazine’s ‘Albums of The Decade’, whilst Kris Drever’s Black Water debut was released to similar incredible reviews and saw him fast become the rising star in the Scottish folk boom of recent years . Kris won the Horizon Award at 2007’s BBC Folk Awards (Best New Artist) before trumping even that solo awar'ds success with subsequent albums and wins in 2008, 2009 and 2010 for ‘Best Group’ with the trio Lau (for whom Reveal released their classic debut “Lightweights & Gentlemen” in March of 2007).
Joan followed her debut’s international success with a beautiful follow up To Survive (featuring David Sylvian and Rufus Wainwright) in June 2008.
February 2009 saw Reveal release Colonia by A CAMP ( a trio fronted by Nina Perrson, also of The Cardigans, and featuring Nathan Larson and Niclas Fisk. The record was very well received at UK radio with two playlisted singles, and the band toured across the world ending the year in style with double nominations (Best Album and Best Pop Group) at Sweden’s Grammi Awards).
In Autumn 2009 Joan As Police Woman toured the UK performing special duo concerts in support of her limited edition “Cover” album. Reveal Records are the official website for non - concert sales of the limited album which was Album of the Week in The Independent.
In November 2009 Tom compiled and mixed a 30 track label download mix-tape for The Independent’s website to further highlight the quality of the label’s music to date - which more than 40,000 people downloaded within the first month. That mix-tape also included material from a second label for whom Tom now consults, Navigator Records.
Tom has label / managed 2010 releases from Kris Drever - Mark The Hard Earth (Reveal / Navigator), Lau vs Karine Polwart - Evergreen (Lau Scotland Ltd / Hegri Music)
Andy Cutting - Andy Cutting (Lane Records), Duotone - Work Harder One Day You'll Find Her (Garrett Brown), and has formed a new label with Dave Derby called Pocket Wolf
